The Condor Trek

Day 1. El Tambo – Lake by the Volcano

We begin our adventure in Quito where we will depart at 8:00 AM via our private transportation and travel for two hours to a small town called El Tambo. From El Tambo, we'll start hiking. Our first campsite is located at 3,900m. On the shores of Mount Antisana's lake. This lake was formed after one of its eruptions created a natural dam. (A / C)

Day 2. Volcano Lake - Saint Lucia

We'll begin our accent to Antisana early in the morning. We'll reach the highest point of the route—4,350 meters above sea level—and enjoy a splendid view, weather permitting. On this day we'll walk through a variety of ecosystems and become aware of the sudden changes in vegetation and climate. Our campsite, at night, is located in an area known as Santa Lucia, at 4,100 m. (D / LB / C)

Day 3. St. Lucia - Sincholagua

After breakfast, we'll pack our gear and leave Antisana behind. We'll climb towards the Sincholagua volcano and camp 4,000 m. above sea level. If we are lucky, we'll be able to observe condors (Vultur griphus) flying nearby. This is the largest and most imposing flying bird in the world. (D / LB / C)

Day 4. Sincholagua - Cotopaxi

On the last day of our trip, we'll approach the gigantic rock walls of Sincholagua. We'll hike on the crest that descends towards Cotopaxi National Park, down to 3,800 m. Our vehicles will be waiting to take us back to Quito. (GIVES)
